It was 1999 when I first encountered Welsh artist Donald Jackson and The St. John's Bible project when he appeared on the TODAY Show. After demonstrating the calligraphy he did for the Queen under royal appointment, he showed the first page of Matthew's Gospel. I was absolutely stunned. Insight, artistic purity, genius, sensitivity, true inclusion in a world where sometimes silly "political correctness" tries to pass for it, and far more were powerfully on display on one sheet of paper. It was an education, a provocation, and a challenge.

Since then I've been a contributor, seen the exhibit at the National Archives in 2006, I've tracked the project thru St. John's, bought each volume as it has appeared, as well as corollary books on the process and the art and various affordable small forms of reproductions. Beautiful calendar. Nice hard cover calendar with a sample from the Saint John's Bible on each week of the year. If you're into saving calendars that are really beautiful, this one's a keeper. Great gift idea for Christmas.

The St. John's Bible Engagement Calendar for 2012 is well organized for each weeks appointments/engagements. It is also inspirational as well with the illuminations on each page. The one item I would like to have also had in the book is a copy of a one page yearly calendar/ with each month shown on the same page for reference purposes at a quick glance. Otherwise I found it excellent. I plan to purchase it again next year.
