Spice Kitchen Wall Calendar: Spice, The World's Great Flavors and Their Stories 2011 Wall Calendar

This is actually a review of Ghigo Press' Coffee Calendar as well as their Spice Calendar. I ordered only the Spice 2010 but they sent both and this review applies equally to both. They are practical with dark numerals making them easy to read and there is plenty of space in the squares for making daily notations. Very interesting stories about the origins, history and uses of the spices and coffees is included. The photographs are gorgeous and I can't wait to try the delicious sounding recipes and food and wine or coffee pairings. I will be delighted to buy more items from Ghigo.

This calendar is absolutely beautiful. The history and information on the spices is rich and bizarre, and the cuisine,spice and wine pairings are wonderful! I recommend it highly.

If there's a foodie on your holiday shopping list (which may include you), this Spice calendar is just the ticket. Each month gets a full page close-up photo of a different spice -- cardamom, vanilla, lemongrass -- and the pictures are incredibly pretty and graphically fun. Each photo also has a few paragraphs about the spice's history (vanilla is second-most expensive next to saffron, for example) but really, it's the photos that make this worthwhile.
