Product Review

Named Toy of the Century by Fortune magazine, LEGO toys are one of the most popular ever, beloved by boys, girls, and grown-ups too! Exhibiting a dozen astonishingly lifelike constructions by top LEGO designers, LEGO: The Calendar is a fun and obsessive tribute to the little plastic blocks that have fueled kids’ imaginations for generations. Each of these creations is a masterpiece of imagination and engineering. A space shuttle on the launch pad (10 . . . 9 . . . 8 . . . ). A perfect replica of the White House. An entire city block, finely detailed down to every lamppost and distinctive building façade. Accompanying the photographs is lively text with historical lore, building tips, and LEGO artist profiles.

I bought this calendar for my 26-year-old son who is a game designer. He still has his box of LEGO in his bedroom. Maybe this calendar will inspire him to open it up and try a few of the designs in this calendar--they are amazing.

This calendar will delight your LEGO fan as it features innovative designs which LEGO artists/engineers have imagined and produced. From a medieval castle under siege, to London's Tower Bridge with iconic double-decker red bus crossing it, a LEGO City (with boat in water, fire station and park), the space shuttle, a construction scene, airport, police headquarters, pirate ship and the 5922 piece Taj Mahal on the cover of this calendar, the diverse creations are sure to inspire. Accompanying the photos are building tips, LEGO lore, trivia and even LEGO designer profiles. The paper is thick and glossy--no bleed through colors. Very attractive photos like the cover.

This calendar even invites LEGO fans to submit a photo of one of their...Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Just pictures from the catalog, December 30, 2011

Our family loves Legos, and we thought (very mistakenly) that this calendar would have pictures of some of the great massive creations at places like Legoland. We were wrong - every picture in the calendar is straight out of a catalog. Having the Taj Mahal on the cover fooled us - it is on display at Legoland, but it is also a Lego set. The other Lego 2012 calendar is much better; it has scenes created just for the calendar, and the scenes include the detail and subtle humor you find in Miniland displays.

The 2012 LEGO calendar is perfect for any LEGO fan. The images are beautiful, colorful and detailed (I especially like the city scene for January!). I'm going to keep the calendar at the end of the year and frame some of my favorite photos :) Plus, the trivia/history at the bottom of each month is lots of fun. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.

The only problem I have with this calendar is that when you write anything on it, such as a birthday, it gets imprinted on the next month too - kinda like carbon copy paper. So you have to put another page in between if you're writing on it or you'll end up with shadows of your writing all over the other pages. If it wasn't for this inconvenience, I'd give this calendar a full 5 stars!
