Humperdinck's charming story is told behind the 24 windows in words and illustrations by Berthe Amoss, children's book author and illustrator. The opera was first performed in Weimar, Germany, on December 23, 1893. Based on the well-known fairy tale, the opera retelling is far more gentle than Grimm's harsh folk tale. Open the 24 windows, one each day beginning December 1, and follow the enchanting story.
