A poet is someone who can pour light into a cup, then raise it to nourish your beautiful, parched, holy mouth. The poetry of the fourteenth-century Persian Hafiz has been referred to, along with Rumi, Shakespeare and Dante, as one of the seven great literary wonders of the world. To Persians, the poems of Hafiz are not classical literature from a remote past but cherished wisdom, humor and love from a dear friend. For centuries Hafiz has been called the tongue of the invisible, and through these modern versions he continues to sing wild and beautiful love songs to this world from God. In the Hafiz 2011 Wall Calendar, Hafiz comes alive through the work of Daniel Ladinsky, whose best-selling books include The Gift, The Subject Tonight Is Love and I Heard God Laughing. The poetry is paired with original photocollage illuminations by Saliha Green. The interior pages of this calendar are printed on 100% recycled, 50% post-consumer paper, processed chlorine free and printed with soy based inks.
As a devotee of the Sufi poet Hafiz, it is with sacred wonder that I hang a calendar that depicts the art and poetry of his era. This is my second year to get a calendar and yes, of course, I had to open it right away when I received it! Thanks to the terrific artists and those who chose the poetry to go with it.

This review is from: Hafiz 2011 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
I sent this to a friend of mine as a thank-you gift, and here's what he wrote back: "...Then I opened the calender. The pictures were so beautiful and the poems so moving that it brought tears to my eyes. I feel truly humble and grateful to receive such a wonderful gift." Yes, the illustrations and words really are that exquisite, and that moving. You just might wind up sending one to everyone you love.

I ordered all the Hafiz books through Amazon. I love his conversations with God in the form of poems. He's witty, intelligent, humane, enlightened! I was thrilled to see the calendar. I bought one for myself and one for my daughter. I would recommend it to anyone who seeks comfort and inspiration in a world gone terribly wrong! Roisin Moriarty
