I appreciate taking risks in art and doing something different, but I don't feel like most of the photos in the calendar are at the level of his Heavenly Bodies calendar.
First, there's the poor photomanipulation. Some of the photos looks so obviously PhotoShop'd, it's just unsettling and embarrassing to put on my wall. Then there's Mr. Long-Blond-Hair-With-Dark-Eyebrows (ugh) and Guy Standing in Tub Outside. Really. I hope these photos don't reflect what's in the book... I have to admit that I will probably be skipping some months. They're just too much of an eye sore, and this does go on my wall.
The cover, February (my favorite), May, August and the back cover are the exceptions. David Vance is obviously able to take great photos, I'm just wondering if he knows to toss the bad ones...?
