Product Description

12 x 12 wall calendar. The Dresden Files is a series of fantasy/mystery novels written by Jim Butcher. He provides a first person narrative of each story from the point of view of the main character, private investigator and wizard Harry Dresden, as he recounts investigations into supernatural disturbances in modern-day Chicago. Butcher's original proposed title for the first novel was Semiautomagic, which sums up the series' balance of fantasy and hard-boiled detective fiction.

Summary: Awesome artwork calender for an awesome urban fantasy series 2008-10-09
Comment: Chris McGrath has to be one of the most masterful fantasy artists today, and I don't think anyone else depicts urban fantasy settings as brilliantly as he does. A less capable artist would make the scene hard to distinguish from any other gritty neo-noir environment, but McGrath always adds that little extra bit that erases the line between reality and the fantastic.

Something that Jim Butcher does with the written word, particularly in his "Dresden Files" series, and I can't think of a better match of word and images. The panels on this calender are all cover designs (or alternate designs) for recent releases or re-releases (of earlier volumes) in the series, and each is a masterpiece. I particularly love the panel for April, which I suspect is a new cover for "Death Masks", and the one for November, which I know I saw on a re-release of "Grave Peril". Some purists have grumbled about the fedora hat that McGrath gives to his vision of Harry Dresden, but it only adds to the noirish atmosphere (and Jim Butcher has made a clever shout-out to this in one short story, where Harry himself has talked about getting himself a black Stetson and spurs...). I can't wait for 2009 to come so I can actually display this calender!
