Listen! Look! Touch! Giggle!

Good night, Dinosaur.

Good night, Binkit.

Amazon.com Review

Sandra Boynton turns on the charm again in this story about a cuddly dino who refuses to go to bed until he (or she) has the right comfort object. A reflective silvery moon, some pull-out flaps, and a liftable bedspread with a reluctant hero hiding beneath it offer the very small reader a way into the story. The "Binkit" itself, a piece of soft yellow felt, can be stroked for reassurance. Reluctant bedtimers from one to three will enjoy this introduction to the idea of a bedtime routine that ends with comfort, closed eyes, and peace. (Baby to age 3)

I started reading this book to my son when he was 7 months old and it was an instant hit. I catch him "reading" it on his own almost every day, going through the pages one by one and lifting the flaps to see what's underneath.I think the magic of Dinosaur's Binkit is that it's both exciting and soothing at the same time. The flaps with hidden pictures keep even young babies interested and yet the language is very rhythmic and soothing and, thus, great for a bedtime story. As an added plus, the flaps help babies develop eye-hand coordination and small motor skills as they figure out how to lift the flaps themselves. The only problem I've had with this book is getting my son to put it down. All in all, it's a triumph for introducing babies to the wonderful surprises books can hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun but still calming enough for bedtime, June 16, 2001

This book is a great combination of an "activity" book and a bedtime book. The lift-the-flap pages and the "touch-and-feel" pages are cute and fun. The flaps are creative - not the run of the mill predictable stuff under the flap. The rhythm of the story is calming and takes well to a quiet soothing voice, which makes this a "real" bedtime book. We have a number of other lift-the-flap or "touch-and-feel" books that we don't read before bed because they get my 14 month old daughter too excited, but this one has just the right balance of fun and calm. My daughter also loves the "teeth" in the toothbrushing page, which I consider a plus as we are teaching her to brush her teeth. This is one of my daughter's very favorite books, and she often goes to find it to "read" it to herself. Highly recommended. We will need to buy another copy soon, after only a few months, because our copy is read so often it is starting to wear...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Pat the Binkit!, August 25, 2002

Poor Dinosaur. It's time for bed, but he cannot find his binkit, and we all know what THAT's like. On every page, he's told to get ready for bed, for he's single-mindedly looking for that binkit, and so are we. There are flaps to lift, paper doors to open...but no binkit.Of course, in the end, not only does Dinosaur find his beloved comfort object, but we get to know what it feels like, in the Pat the Bunny mode. It feels soft and comfy, just right for bedtime. My only tiny objection to this fabulous Boynton creation is that the paper flaps can be difficult for tiny fingers to open, and can also be torn easily. But even if they fall all the way off, the book remains irresistible.
