Product Review

Every day, a masterpiece for the art lover. Curated by New York City’s celebrated Metropolitan Museum of Art, this gallery-for-your-desk showcases hundreds of beautifully reproduced pieces from the Met’s collection. Paul Gauguin’s La Orana Maria (Hail Mary). Louis Comfort Tiffany’s striking Magnolia and Irises stained glass. One of Van Gogh’s memorable self-portraits. Edward Hopper’s The Lighthouse at Two Lights. Plus Japanese woodblock prints, dramatic photographs, exquisite furniture, lavish clothing and jewelry, and more. The calendar reflects the museum’s vast scope, with works ranging from the ancient to the contemporary, from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania to the Americas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy on Decorative Arts, November 24, 2011

Up until the last few years the Page a Day folks used art from museums all over the world. This was great because you got to see a good mix of famous stuff along with unfamiliar paintings and sculptures by familiar artists from some of the smaller international museums. Well, I'm sure the administrative work along with the cost of the royalties of using all those different museums just got to be too much. So now it's just the Met, year after year. The Met certainly and obviously has a great and vast collection but in terms of their masterworks, there are bound to be repeats. In addition to, with the switch to solely the Met, the decorative arts pieces (furniture, costumes, dishes) increased enormously. I'd say at least every other day you've got a chair or a dish or a dress or a textile. Sculpture (except for old triptych type stuff) and contemporary art are conspicuously spare. It's still a fine calendar and looks elegant and is high quality. But I don't think I'll be purchasing it...Read more

If you're looking for an original gift to give an art aficionado, this calendar offers quality images of art from the Metropolitan Art Museum of New York. Although I've taken several art history classes at the Met through NYU, it seems impossible to see and remember everything. Art calendars are a great way to immerse yourself in diverse art daily. This calendar comes in plastic container that can be set up like a mini-easel so the masterpiece of the day is displayed on your desk all day for a visual treat. The pictures give my heart a lift when I see them--feel like I'm in a gallery at the Met. What great escapism!

I love the concept of this calendar--a masterpiece a day so the art is revealed in digestible pieces. About 2/3 of the photos are of paintings, and 1/3 is pottery, sculpture, jewelry etc. But some of these are painted as well. For example, in January all are paintings, except for one sword, one vase, 2 jewelry pieces, one sculpture and 3 pottery...Read more
