Summary: Something I purchase every year 2010-01-07
Comment: The annual calendars of African American Art from the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery have become an important part of my life. I'm a music teacher in a predominantly African American school and I have used old editions of the calendars to decorate my classroom. My room comes alive with the movement and colors in all the amazing paintings. My students constantly study the paintings and frequently ask about the artists and the techniques the artists used in rendering their work. I use the current calendar at home; it hangs in my home office above my desk and inspires me as I work. For practical purposes, I also write dates that I need to remember directly onto the calendar. I can't imagine not having the calendars available to me because they enhance so many different aspects of my life. If you want to see top-notch artwork by African Americans, then the Michael Rosenfeld calendars are the best. Included are the most well-known artists, such as Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden and Charles Alston, but lesser known artists, too, such as Hughie Lee-Smith, Ernest Crichlow, Hale Woodruff, Alma Thomas and my most favorite of all, Charles White.
