Product Review
Product Description
Over the past two centuries, black American artists have consistently produced outstanding work in a wide variety of styles and media and in scales that range from the intimate to the monumental. The twelve paintings and collages featured in this calendar--by African American artists Benny Andrews, Romare Bearden, Eldzier Cortor, Beauford Delaney, Jacob Lawrence, Hughie Lee-Smith, Norman Lewis, Betye Saar, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Alma Thomas, Bob Thompson, and Charles White--draw inspiration from jazz, blues, children's games, biblical stories, European masterworks, African art and culture, and the intersection of personal and public history. Together, they offer but a sampling of the contribution African American artists have made to the global history of art.

Published with the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery. Size: 12 x 13 in.; opens to 12 x 26 in. Printed on FSC certified paper with soy-based ink.

This review is from: African American Art 2010 Calendar (Calendar)
The annual calendars of African American Art from the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery have become an important part of my life. I'm a music teacher in a predominantly African American school and I have used old editions of the calendars to decorate my classroom. My room comes alive with the movement and colors in all the amazing paintings. My students constantly study the paintings and frequently ask about the artists and the techniques the artists used in rendering their work. I use the current calendar at home; it hangs in my home office above my desk and inspires me as I work. For practical purposes, I also write dates that I need to remember directly onto the calendar. I can't imagine not having the calendars available to me because they enhance so many different aspects of my life. If you want to see top-notch artwork by African Americans, then the Michael Rosenfeld calendars are the best. Included are the most well-known artists, such as Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden and Charles...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Calendar, January 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For years now, I've bought the African American Art calendar. It brightens my home office. Also, after the calendars have expired, I use the artwork to make bulletin boards at the elementary school where I work. The children I teach enjoy perusing the work and seeing art, not only made by African Americans, but showing images of African Americans.
