Recently I learned of this short story collection featuring a good number of our local New Mexico authors. Liking to support their creative efforts as I am able, I got the collection for reading on my Kindle. I am happy to report that they did not disappoint. The stories were filled with humor and some were quite creepy.
There was, however, one that truly stood apart for me.....a story by a writer new to the field....Scott Denning. Having had the pleasure to be in a small audience around a Halloween bonfire, I had already known the thrill of listening to Scott Denning tell stories. Not all storytellers are able to translate that verbal skill into effective writing. Scott Denning does a bang-up job! For his story alone, this book is well worth buying and sharing with anyone who will read it. With his story surrounded by more good short stories, this is a win-win proposition.

Career Guide is a great collection of short stories by some really talented authors. Each story has a different take on what makes for a terrible job; some are funny, some are horrible, some make you sympathize with the poor slobs and some of them combine all these. All of us have days when we think our jobs are the worst, when all those irritating and repetitious happenings have built up to the point where we think, "My god, now I understand why people go postal!". Other times something crazy and unique may occur, something we think is so outrageous that no one would ever believe it. Well, here is a collection of stories that encompass just that. Some are true, some are based on truth, some not at all, and some one would hope for the sake of the author are not based on anything that could have possibly happened because...wow...you poor soul. All, however, are guaranteed to entertain and even, in some cases, educate you. From murder to science fiction to horror to humor you'll find jobs in sanitation, taxi driving, wind turbine fields, guillotines, rodent breeding, and more. It's a cornucopia of jobs in Hell that made me laugh out loud.
