But every one is a good-to-know word. From the editors at Merriam-Webster, America's most respected dictionary.

We had hoped for a calendar full of good SAT/ACT words, but instead have a calendar with only a portion of its words satisfying this goal, and the rest being overly obscure from our perspective. Perhaps a verbivore would love them, but this is not all that useful to our kids as a source of good "word of the day" words to build their vocabulary of "essential" words.

My daughter is hoping to go to a national spelling bee next year, and has begun to study for it. I bought her this calendar as a way to learn new words. I was pleased to realize that the words are chosen from the Merriam-Webster dictionary, which is the official spelling bee dictionary. We are enjoying learning new words together, and we find the etymology information on the backs of the pages especially helpful.
