Product Review

Sensuous, inviting and highly charged. Just three ways to describe the slim poster calendar featuring twelve black and white images of women as photographed by renowned photographer Stephan May for 2012. Each month is placed at the bottom of the image in an easy to read format using month number followed by date, with Sundays shaded for easy reference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and very average imagery, December 24, 2004

Alas the best shot is on the cover and in my humble opinion its very average after that. Nothing new is offered in this book. Sure the subject matter is as old as time but there is not anything that makes the work stand out. (Composition, lighting, etc.).

I wish Amazon offered at least 12 preview shots for books like this, would give customers a better shopping experience. I looked through the book once and then threw it away. If you collect photography books there is no reason to keep something so average.

If you were interested in something that DOES deliver I recommend anything by: Bruno Bisang. You will not be disappointed as he does offer something unique and something that will inspire you rather than not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great cover, poor book., September 1, 2005

Stafan May IS a great photographer. This though is NOT a great book. I think another reviewer already said it, the best photo (by far) is the cover, and it's all downhill from there. Just take a look at the "additional images" shown here on Amazon. The remainder of the book is rarely even in the same direction as the cover. Really, it's a shame, because that cover is really a killer photo. But personally, I *hate* it when publishers do this! Great cover that bears little or no resemblance to the contents of the book. It's so deceptive and misleading, like wrapping a $100 bill around a bunch of $1's.

Mr. May can do better. Take a look at some of his other books. I'd really like to give this one 2 stars, but that cover shot alone is worth the purchase price of this book, so I give it 3 stars total. Buy it for the cover and consider the rest of the book as "filler".

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Emotional, January 5, 2005

I discovered Stefan Mays Photos in the Australian "Black and White" Magazine and was so impressed that I bought his book "Women". It turned out that my first impression was right and that my expectations were not only met but even excelled.

For me as a collector of good black and white photography Stefan May is so far the only artist I know who is able to show naked women in a very emotional way without implicating the lightest touch of pornography. You could get the feeling the women are alive. The photographs are talking to their observer as I never saw it before.

All in all I can only highly recommend this stunning masterpiece!
